Vegetable Box Scheme - Close to the Veg

The first of the Earth Trust farm’s Farm Step tenants is 'Close to the Veg', a vegetable box scheme set up by Clare Ferguson.

'Close to the Veg' is a small market garden, producing fresh fruit and vegetables for local people in the Wittenhams, near Wallingford, and East Oxford, Headington and Marston.  Produce is all grown using environmentally friendly methods and no chemicals. The aim is to create a thriving ecosystem where frogs, ladybirds and beetles take care of the pests, and the vegetables take care of themselves.

The produce is sold mainly through veg box deliveries locally or it can be picked up from the Clifton Hampden post office.  A typical box always contains onions and potatoes, plus five or six other seasonal items. The Close to the Veg website has recipes which can help you identify anything you don't recognise, and offer ideas of what to do with it.
