Green Queen Poppy will be lighting the South Oxfordshire Beacon

Eight year old Poppy McLean-Inglis will be lighting the official South Oxfordshire Jubilee Beacon at the Earth Trust and South Oxfordshire District Council party on the 4th June.

In her entry Poppy decided if she were queen for the day she'd "set up the Order of the Environment and give it to people who had done something good to the environment. They would wear the regalia and be very famous." Poppy designed the Order of the Environment, the badge can be seen on the left, click here to see Green Queen Poppy's Order of the Environment

Lynda Atkins was runner up with her suggestion that "anyone at school spends one day a month working on an environmental project - not just collecting litter either! If we all learnt at school, we'd all remember and perhaps put what we learn into use for the rest of our lives..."

The Earth Trust has teamed up with South Oxfordshire Districe Council to host two parties in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Monday 4th June.

Between 11am-3pm there'll be a family musical celebration. Everyone from toddlers to grandparents can join a drumming workshop, make an instrument or a Jubilee memento to take home.

The jewel in the Jubilee party crown kicks off at 6.30pm. On arrival you'll be welcomed by a steel band and during the evening four live bands will take to the stage to get everyone dancing - delicious food, beer, wine and Pimms will be available when you need a rest! Poppy will light the South Oxfordshire Beacon on Wittenham Clumps at 10.15pm, with the evening coming to a close at 10.30pm.

Join us for a spectacular celebration in the day or evening - or both! Advance tickets cost £2 and are available from Cornerstone Arts, Didcot until the box offices closes at 3pm on Sunday 3rd June. Remaining tickets will be available for £4 on the day - we can not guarantee availability so book soon!
