Poppy Lights South Oxfordshire Jubilee Beacon

Lighting the official South Oxfordshire Jubilee Beacon was the perfect finale to the Beacon Parties held by Earth Trust and South Oxfordshire District Council on Monday 4th June. Excited competition winner Poppy McLean-Inglis, appropriately dressed in Union flag dress, couldn’t wait to walk up Castle Hill at the Wittenham Clumps for her moment in the limelight.

Both day and evening parties were sold out in advance: over 1500 people celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at the Earth Trust Centre. There was something for everyone. During the day families made crowns, flags, instruments, Jubilee scrap books and joined in fantastic drumming workshops. The evening celebration offered an eclectic mix of entertainment from live music to wildlife croquet - no animals were harmed!
