Volunteers' Week 2017

Volunteers' Week

We're celebrating national Volunteers' Week (1st-7th June!). As well as hosting a BBQ to say a huge THANK YOU to all our exisiting volunteers, we're inviting newbies to come along to some of our regular activities as a taster for some of the opportunities on offer...

Volunteering with the Communications and Engagement Team

Volunteer's Week coincides with half term, when we have lots of fun family events taking place! We're always in need of volunteers to help welcome visitors and run the activities:

  • Woodland Adventure, Wednesday 31st May, 10am-12pm
  • Wildlife Wednesday, Wednesday 31st May, 2pm-4pm
  • Little Explorers, Thursday 1st June, 10am-11.30am
  • Discover and Play, Friday 2nd June, 10am-12pm
  • Sunday Drop-in: Forest School Fun, Sunday 4th June, 10am-2pm

We also have a volunteer craft evening on Wednesday 7th June (7pm-9pm), where we'll be making decorations for the Summer Picnic in July. Bring your creative skills and we'll provide the tea and cake!

Volunteering with the Land Management Team

We have regular conservation work parties here in Little Wittenham and out on some of our community reserves. The groups carry out practical tasks and help manage the nature reserves so they're in the best condition for both wildlife and people.

  • Thursday Group, Thursday 1st June, 10am-3pm
Every other Thursday in summer (and every Thursday in winter) the group carry out work at Thrupp Lake or Abbey Fishponds in Abingdon.
  • Friday Group, Friday 2nd June and Friday 9th June, 9am-4pm
Our weekly volunteer group meets every Friday in Little Wittenham.
  • The Big Dig! Monday 5th June, 10am-3pm
We're setting up a new veg growing group of volunteers - a community allotment here at the Earth Trust Centre. Everyone is welcome to join in, whether you’re already green-fingered or don’t know your artichoke from your endive, and you’ll be able to take home some of the produce you help to grow (when it’s ripe and ready of course!). In this first session we’ll be preparing the ground and deciding what kinds of vegetables you’d like to plant.
